Hydration and Immunity Connection

Hydration and Immunity Connection

How much water do you drink on an average day? If it’s not a lot, it could be affecting your immunity.

Dehydration can have a ton of effects on the body and you probably already know that it can make you feel tired and lethargic and lead to headaches.

You may not be so familiar with the impact on immunity though. Hydration can help immunity in a few ways:

Water helps to carry oxygen around the body so that cells and tissues can function efficiently. With everything working well, your immune system can fight viruses and other pathogens.

Water also supports the production of lymph fluid. This is super important for carrying waste products and bacteria out of the body via the lymph nodes. Proper hydration makes it easier for your lymph nodes to do this job and help your body to defend against illness.

It can also help your body to flush out toxins, which is another factor in keeping your immune system healthy.

Good hydration can also help improve sleep, which in turn has a positive effect on immunity. Poor sleep affects the ability of T-cells to protect your body.

Drinking plenty of water every day is super vital for helping to support your immunity. If you regularly get headaches or feel tired and lacking in focus, these could be signs that you’re not currently drinking enough water. And if your urine is dark, this is definitely a sure sign you need to drink more.

For some fun ideas on how to make your water more palatable and a in more in-depth look, check out this post.
